Anxiety

It’s been awhile since I’ve written a poem/song, and I wanted to share my most recent one with you. I’ve struggled with anxiety for quite a bit of my life but more intensely over the last few years. I’m grateful to the Lord for helping me wrestle through it. Writing about it helps and reminds me that I am a daughter of the King no matter what the enemy’s lies may say. I hope you are encouraged listening to it as I was when writing it.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]

Too many thoughts in my head.

I can’t get out of bed.

I get lost in my mind.

Who will I be this time?

[Verse 2]

Anxiety is killing me.

It changes who I want to be.

Fear takes over; doubt takes hold.

Oh Lord, heal this wounded soul!

[Chorus]

I want to be free like You made me,

Like an eagle soaring

Through life’s regrets and choices made,

Following my Savior as anxiety fades.

[Verse 3]

I walk with my head downcast

Weighed down by the sins of my past.

Anxiety whispers lies deep inside:

“It would be better if you had died.”

[Verse 4]

But light breaks forth from the Lord

As He slices the lies with His double-edged sword.

The truth of His Word pours like living water:

I am the true King’s daughter!

[Chorus]

I want to be free like You made me,

Like an eagle soaring

Through life’s regrets and choices made,

Following my Savior as anxiety fades.

[Bridge]

I was meant to live,

Meant to dream,

Meant to delight,

In the King.

Hope will never fade away,

But I must trust and obey

For the King desires my loyalty;

Only Him will I seek.

[Chorus]

I want to be free like You made me,

Like an eagle soaring

Through life’s regrets and choices made,

Following my Savior as anxiety fades.

[Verse 5]

He destroys the lies within,

Reminding me of who I’ve always been:

A chosen daughter with all my flaws,

Redeemed by the blood of the cross.

[Outro]

Anxiety can no longer have a hold

Because I know now I must be bold

To face the enemy with everlasting truth

That in Christ I will win and he will lose.
